The suspension of the Managing Director, Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Damilola Ogunbiyi, has been reversed by President Muhammadu Buhari. This was made known by the Federal Governmnet via its Twitter handle.

The tweet read thus; “President @MBuhari has directed that the suspension of Mrs Damilola Ogunbiyi from her role as Managing Director of @realREANigeria, be reversed. Her resignation effective 31 December 2019 has been accepted to enable her assume her new @UN appointment,”

Ogunbiyi was accused of committing some unnamed infractions by the Minister of Power, which led to her suspension. This caused a delay in the receipt of her resignation in which she tendered some months back.

What it means: The reversal means her resignation is accepted and a successor can now duly come into the organization.

The mandatory three months notice given by Ogunbiyi in preparation to hand over to her successor and transit REA to its new leadership would now take its full course.

Why this matters: The clean bill given by President is a boost to Ogunbiyi, who has since resumed at the United Nations on January 2, 2020, as the Chief Executive of Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and Co-chair of the United Nations-Energy.

What you should know: Nairametrics recently reported the news revealing what led to the dismissal of the Managing Directors of REA and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET), as new revelation emerged on what led to their dismissal.

The Special Assistant to the Minister of Power, Aaron Artimas, had said that the former bosses of REA, NBET, Damilola Ogunbiyi and Marilyn Amobi respectively, were members of a cabal accused of infractions but ‘untouchable’. He also alleged that they were part of a group of people sabotaged the power sector.
