European smart technology company MediaKing has entered the Nigerian market through a partnership with Play Network Africa to deploy what could become one of the country’s largest high-density public Wi-Fi networks.
The expansion marks MediaKing’s entry into one of Africa’s fastest-growing digital economies and signals increasing international interest in Nigeria’s technology infrastructure sector.
MediaKing has already tested the model in European markets. In Split, the company deployed a large-scale public Wi-Fi network covering key public locations, including the city’s waterfront and major commercial corridors, demonstrating the system’s ability to support large volumes of users while maintaining stable performance.
Darko Kraljevik, Founder, MediaKing said, “In Split, we deployed across some of the most active public spaces, where large volumes of people connect simultaneously throughout the day. What that showed us is that high-density public Wi-Fi can perform consistently when the system is designed for scale from the ground up. It’s not about limiting users, it’s about building infrastructure that can handle real urban demand.”
Under the rollout plan, the company intends to deploy between 5,000 and 10,000 hotspots per major city, beginning with Lagos and Abuja.
The infrastructure will focus on high-traffic environments such as markets, transport hubs, commercial centres, schools and hospitals, where demand for reliable connectivity remains high.

Kraljevik added, “Nigeria stands out as a high-growth digital economy with the scale, energy, and demand to support long-term infrastructure investment. For us, this is not a short-term deployment, it is a long-term commitment to building a platform that can grow alongside the country’s cities, institutions, and digital economy.”
MediaKing’s platform combines high-capacity Wi-Fi infrastructure with a digital engagement system that allows brands, institutions and governments to communicate directly with users.
The company says this model enables the network to remain free for users while generating value through institutional partnerships, advertising and enterprise connectivity solutions.
According to Afam Anyika, CEO, MediaKing Nigeria,
“What we’re building creates value across multiple layers of the economy. It opens up new opportunities for businesses to reach customers, gives institutions a more effective way to communicate, and creates jobs through deployment, operations, and local capacity development. Over time, this becomes an ecosystem that supports both economic activity and digital inclusion at scale.”
The company also noted that the Nigerian operation will focus on local talent development, including the training of engineers and the creation of technical jobs tied to deployment and network maintenance.
