WhatsApp has embarked on a testing phase for an exciting new feature AI-generated stickers.

These cutting-edge stickers, fueled by AI technology, are currently in the hands of a select group of testers participating in the Android WhatsApp beta program.  The impact of these stickers is already generating buzz.

This innovative AI-powered functionality grants users the ability to morph simple text descriptions into captivating sticker designs.

In a move that seeks to elevate user engagement and foster creativity within the platform’s ecosystem, WhatsApp has taken a substantial stride forward.

By harnessing the capabilities of advanced generative AI technology, WhatsApp aspires to streamline the process of sticker creation, eliminating the need for laborious manual selection from a plethora of pre-existing options.

A noteworthy aspect of these AI-originated stickers is the incorporation of distinctive markers. WABetaInfo suggests the inclusion of watermarks or indicators that signify their AI-generated origin.

This concept aligns with Microsoft’s utilization of OpenAI’s DALL-E for visual content in Bing Chat, as well as Instagram’s intentions to label content produced through AI processes.

What this means

Over time, we’ve observed the gradual integration of generative AI into various aspects of mainstream applications. Given this trend, it’s unsurprising that WhatsApp is now entering the realm of AI-generated stickers.

This innovation has the potential to infuse a sense of personalization into WhatsApp conversations, circumventing the need for individuals to rely solely on frequently used stickers, GIFs, and meme images, all while bypassing the necessity for advanced design skills.

What you should know

Comparable to the image generation prowess demonstrated by Midjourney and OpenAI’s DALL-E models, WhatsApp’s new functionality will be able to provide users with a visual representation of their textual descriptions.

While the particular generative AI model employed has not been revealed, it’s important to highlight that the development of these stickers is supported by Meta’s secure technology.

Once activated, the AI-driven sticker functionality will request users to input a textual description outlining their desired visual representation.

Subsequently, WhatsApp’s AI framework will produce a variety of stickers, each customized according to the supplied input. This approach guarantees that users will have a selection of multiple options to pick from.
