The management of Nigeria Air Limited has raised alarm over the existence of fake websites and links that are being used by unscrupulous persons for advertisement and recruitment of unsuspecting members of the public.

According to Vanguard, the disclosure is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the special assistant to the minister of aviation, James Odaudu, advising Nigerians to dismiss such notifications or invitations as nothing of such exercise is currently ongoing.

Odaudu, in his statement, urged individuals that had applied for the earlier officially advertised positions to get authenticated information from the official website, which is www.nigeriaair.world

What the aviation minister’s aide is saying

The statement from Odaudu reads, ā€œThe attention of the Management of Nigeria Air Limited has been drawn to some recruitment advertisements and announcements by certain unscrupulous elements claiming to be agents or staff of the upcoming airline.

ā€œThe so-called agents have created a host of fake websites and links supposedly for the submission of applications by unsuspecting members of the public.

ā€œWe wish to inform the general public, especially those who have applied for the earlier officially advertised positions that no recruitment interviews or tests have been scheduled. All such announcements or invitations for such should be disregarded as they are the handiwork of fraudsters and scammers.

ā€œFor the avoidance of doubt, the official website is www.nigeriaair.world, and only those pre-qualified as meeting the B737 requirements will be contacted by the management of Nigeria Air Limited individually, and certainly not by public announcements.

ā€œAll those concerned are therefore advised to ignore such announcements or invitations, as responding to, or dealing with them in any way, will be at their own risk.ā€

What you should know

  • Recall that after an initial denial, the minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika, on September 23, 2022, announced that the federal government had picked Ethiopians Airlines as its technical partner for the national carrier project, Nigeria Air.
  • He also announced 3 other Nigerian investors with different equity shares with Ethiopian Airlines holding 49% shares in the airline, Federal Government with 5% while the local investors would share the remaining 46%.
  • The ministry had also earlier announced the commencement of the recruitment of qualified crew members for its operation that is expected to be launched shortly, adding that an application portal for other open positions will be available shortly on the website; www.nigeriaair.world.

I get fed up with write up like this. Why can’t the website be mentioned, so that people will know exactly what you are saying? why can’t trap be set for the perpetrator by the aviation agency/police and the offender be arrested and proprosecuted by the law enforcement agencies to serve as a deterrent to others? When you write things like this, you are embolden others criminals, you telling the public that it is their fault if they fall victim. What type of country are we?

We are encouraging criminals for not naming and shaming the perpetrators no matter how highly placed.
