6 tips to choose the packaging design that reflects your ecommerce brand values
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linkedin

We started packing goods as a way to protect them during transit. But as time passed, packaging quickly evolved into a crucial element of brand identity.

Today, customers don’t only want high-quality, reliable products, they also want to have a top-notch unboxing experience. The way you pack your products makes a huge difference in how customers perceive your products.

Take a look at any luxury brand, for instance. Rolex watches are perceived as high-quality products because they’re packed in a best-in-class manner, besides being excellent in quality and attention to detail. Apple’s customers love their products because they are created with detail and user experience in mind — and also because of the unboxing experience.

Simply put, your product’s packaging plays a crucial role in how well your customers perceive your store or brand.

In this article, we talk about how you can choose the right packaging design for your products so you may build a solid brand image.

Let’s get started.

1. Explore your options

First and foremost, you need to have a clear understanding of what the available options are.

There are tons of packaging solutions available in the market today. Some are incredibly affordable and simple, while some are expensive and premium. The type of packaging you pick depends on what kind of customers you’re going after.

When you pick one of the options, ensure you’re making some changes to it to make it your own. Never choose a widely-used design as it is and pretend it to be your own.

If none of the available options work for you, it’s recommended to get one designed.

2. Choose a theme

Your packing’s theme depicts how the customers perceive your products. If it’s a minimal and simple design, it will be appealing to mature customers. If it’s filled with colors and artwork, children and teens will love it.

Make sure you’re choosing a theme that perfectly aligns with your target customers.

If you’re having difficulties choosing the right inspiration for your packaging, consider partnering with other companies. Doing so will add incredible value to your brand’s values by giving you innovative packaging ideas such as child-resistant cannabis packaging, that speaks quality.

3. Incorporate your colour palette

Almost every eCommerce store, brand, and other type of organization maintains a specific colour palette on their website and social media accounts.

Some might even have a monochrome theme with black, white, and grey colours — but the palette is still there.

You can shout your brand voice at the first glance a customer has on your products by incorporating the colour palette on the packaging. When the user takes the wraps of the shipping company off, the first thing they would see is your brand colour, which instantly invokes the feeling that they have received something from a premium brand.

4. Try something unique

At this point, customers have seen almost every kind of packaging there is. However, the companies that go above and beyond to design their packaging, still stand out.

If you watch unboxing videos of any specific brand’s products on YouTube, you will instantly notice how people appreciate products that come with premium packaging with unique features.

For instance, all of Apple’s products are infamous for having plastic wrapping that you can take off without a knife. Try to incorporate such an idea in your packaging, too.

5. Talk to the customers

Some stores and brands have started a trend to include a “welcome note” in their products’ packaging.

While it’s not compulsory to include something like this in your packaging, it gives you an upper hand in the competition. When the customers get to read a warm and welcoming note when they purchase from you, they get the intimate feeling of being a part of something great.

Another thing to keep in mind is that chatbots are becoming crucial for businesses to automate social interactions. Customer service is one area where chatbots can be incredibly useful, especially since there is often no human customer service available!

Product support and self-serve services also make use of this technology that helps deliver customers more quickly through automated responses when they need help or information on products/services provided by your company

 6. Eco-friendly trends

Sustainable initiatives should be an integral part of any company that has its eyes set on the future. If you want your organization to stay competitive in this industry, it’s important for sustainability practices not only concern themselves with what kind of products they produce but also how those goods are packaged and delivered as well. More than just an eCommerce trend of the future, eco-friendly packaging is a global movement towards a greener world.

The bottom line

Building an epic brand image is the gateway to long-term success. And product packaging plays an important role in how well your products are perceived by the customers.

This article gives you the top 5 tips to improve your package designs to better attract customers and build a great name.
