The Federal Government has announced that it has commenced a nationwide “Operation Verify Your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Online” to reduce risks and fraudulent activities related with covid-19 vaccinations.

This was disclosed in a statement by Dr. Faisal Shuaib ED/CEO, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on Monday at the Presidential Steering Committee Briefing on Covid-19 vaccination progress in Nigeria.

Shuaib also warned that any Nigerians found obtaining the COVID-19 vaccination card illegally (buying or selling) will be made to face the law, as the Joint Task Force on COVID-19 which includes security agents from the ICPC, DSS and other relevant security agencies remain on alert at every corner of the country and are regularly conducting impromptu checks.

What the NPHCDA boss is saying

The NPHCDA boss warned that It would also be extremely difficult to use fraudulently obtained cards outside the shores of the country.

He added that as part of the FG’s plans to mitigate fraud and further enhance the integrity of the vaccination exercise, the NPHCDA has commenced a nationwide “Operation Verify Your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Online” exercise.

“The exercise will enable you confirm your personal information such as name, date of birth, and correct damaged QR codes. Verifying your personal information will enable government to secure your vaccination record against impersonation and other fraudulent activities,” he said.

He added that the scheme is also one of the ways the FG is checking the criminal activities of those who may have obtained the vaccination card without taking the vaccine.

“We will invalidate all COVID-19 vaccination cards illegally obtained by unvaccinated people during this exercise. This also gives international travellers the opportunity to verify their vaccination records well ahead of their travel date.

“We therefore advise such persons to verify their records a week prior to their travel date to avoid delays at the point of departure. However, newly vaccinated persons are advised to verify their vaccination records 24 hours after,” he stated.

On vaccine availability, he stated that Nigeria received 3,924,000 doses of AZ in batches between October 22nd – 25th from the COVAX facility and also a combination of 1,022,400 doses of AZ as donations from the Governments of Germany, Switzerland and Italy last week from COVAX.

He added the federal government has received commitments of over 11.99 million and 12.2 million doses of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines respectively. He said Nigeria has also have received a commitment of 4,953,600 doses of Moderna as donation from US Government through COVAX.

“We would also like to remind us that the federal government procured 39,800,000 doses of J&J COVID-19 vaccine through the AVATT and these have been coming in batches. If you are 18 years and above and unvaccinated, simply walk into the nearest vaccination site to take your COVID-19 vaccine. It is free, safe, effective and protects you, your family and your community,” he added.

The agency stated that to verify your COVID-19 vaccination records, visit www.vaccination.gov.ng/verification-guide, and follow the instructions. If for any reason one is unable to access the website, simply call the NPHCDA COVID-19 helpline: 0700 220 1122 for assistance.
