U.S Government donates 3,577,860 doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to Nigeria

The United States government has disclosed that it has donated 3,577,860 doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines to the Nigerian government, through the COVAX facility.

This was disclosed in a statement by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria on Thursday, in Abuja. They also disclosed that the total number of COVID-19 vaccines shipped to Nigeria from the U.S Government was over 7.5 million, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

They revealed that the U.S Government had contributed to the first multilateral donation of AstraZeneca vaccines in March 2021, which has seen COVAX vaccines to Nigeria reach 10 million doses to date.

What the U.S Mission said

They stated that the U.S. government’s pledge to donate more vaccines to members of the African Union was part of the administration’s pledge to help developing nations fight the pandemic.

It was revealed that the U.S had also pledged to purchase and donate 1.1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses worldwide, and to date, had delivered more than 180 million doses to more than 100 countries.

Biden said, “The United States is committed to bringing the same urgency to international vaccination efforts that we have demonstrated at home.

“We are sharing these vaccines to save lives and to lead the world in bringing an end to the pandemic.”

Reports cite that the U.S. government has provided 130 million dollars worth of support to Nigeria’s Ministry of Health and Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19.

Nairametrics reported that the Federal Government announced December 1, 2021, as the deadline for civil servants to take their Covid-19 vaccination.

The Nigerian government also revealed that it had removed South Africa, Brazil and Turkey from the list of countries from which travellers had been restricted from entering Nigeria due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
