A cease and desist notification has been sent to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) concerning the use of the name “eNaira.”

This is according to a document seen by Nairametrics titled: “Infringement of Trademark & Violation of Corporate Name cease and desist Notification to the Central Bank of Nigeria.” The  notice was signed by Olakule Agbebi Esq for Olakule Agbebi & Co .

This development comes after the successful deployment of the Centre Bank Enaira website and days away from the activation of the eNaira itself.

This is how Lawyers will deliberately mislead their clients and lead them on wild goose chases just to collect appearance fees and make money. CBN has the mandate in its act to create the currency of the Federal Republic of Naira. It can change it anytime from Naira & Kobo to Peti & Patu or any other name. Enaira is not a trademark that any logical thinking person will lay claim to. Let’s even say for the sake of argument that he has a case, does he have the billions & govt backing that CBN has to go all the way to the supreme court to chase the case. While losing business and opening yourself to a counter suit in the process. Is all of this really worth it in the end ?

This is a frivolous suit, he has not merit at all. I may not be a lawyer but you know a frivolous case when you see one. I think he is only seeking cheap publicity. I don’t see how he can win this. His business name is: “ENAIRA PAYMENT SOLUTIONS LIMITED” and the CBN named its CBDC currency “eNaira”; my people, where is the infringement?
