275 graduates have tested positive for Covid-19, as Nigerian tertiary institution graduates travel to various parts of the country for the National Youth Service Corps program amid the rising 3rd wave of COVID-19.
This was disclosed in a report by the Punch on Saturday.
The report said 103 prospective corps members tested positive for COVID-19 in Ogun (35), and Gombe (25), Plateau (22), and Taraba (21), while 172 corps members tested positive in eight other states, including Osun (38), Cross River (33), Akwa Ibom (31), Edo (17), Ekiti (17), Bauchi (16), Sokoto (14), and Delta (6).
Earlier this week, the Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, revealed that the number of NYSC members who had tested positive for Coronavirus was 35 and some were on home management, while others were in the isolation centre.
“In the last one week, there has been a sharp rise in new cases from seven per day to 16 per day,’’ Coker said.
There has been no confirmation from the Federal Government if the NYSC camp exercise would be suspended in a bid to control the spread.
