Nigeria’s basketball men team, D’Tigers have crashed out of the Tokyo Olympics after losing a must-win match against Italy.
Mike Brown’s side lost to Italy 71-80 which marks the end of the road for the D’Tigers. This is their third straight defeat in the Olympics after losing the group match opener against Australia 68-84 and also lost against Germany 92-99. They didn’t pick up any point in all their matches.
D’Tigers had a tight chance of progressing but needed to defeat the Italians with at least nine points and hope Australia defeats Germany to stand a chance of qualifying for the quarter-final.
In the pre-Olympic friendly, D’Tigers were in a scintillating form where they defeated the number one ranked team, USA 90-87 and also defeated the number four ranked team, Argentina 94-71. However, they’ve been unable to continue the run of good form at the Tokyo Olympics.
Meanwhile, D’Tigres, the female’s basketball team has lost their first two matches in the Tokyo Olympics and would play their last group match on Monday.
