Nigeria’s hopes for another medal at the Tokyo Olympics athletics hit a roadblock as Nigeria’s women’s 4 X100 metres relay team finished 6th in the eight-team heat 2 of the competition

The Nigerian women’s relay squad ran a time of just 43.25 seconds in the Thursday morning heat at the Olympics, crashing dreams of a final heat.

Members of Nigeria’s women’s 1 X 100 metres relay team includes Tobiloba Amusan, Grace Nwokocha, Patience George and Bronze medalist, Ese Brume.

Germany came first in the heat at a time of 42.00, followed by Switzerland and China.

The Nigerian Athletics Federation has been rocked by the Puma scandal at the Olympics, as reports emerged on Wednesday that Puma has cancelled its 4 year $2.7 million contract with Nigeria, citing alleged breach of clause agreement for the Olympics.

  • Nigeria’s basketball men team, D’Tigers crashed out of the Tokyo Olympics after losing to Australia, Germany and Italy.
  • The women’s basketball team, D’Tigress also lost their games to the United States, France and Japan to crash out of the competition.
  • However, Ese Brume inspired Nigeria’s hopes for medals as she won Nigeria’s first medal at the games, clinching a bronze in the women’s long jump.
