Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi has now tested negative to the Coronavirus. The governor took to his Twitter handle earlier this morning with the announcement that his COVID-19 repeat test has come back negative for the second time since he went into isolation less than two weeks ago.
The Governor then used his platform to urge Nigerians to continue to strive to tackle the Coronavirus pandemic.
After 11 days in isolation, I received news that my CoviD 19 repeat test came back negative. My sincere gratitude goes to God Almighty, my family, my medical team and all well wishers for the prayers and solidarity. We must continue to do all we can to tackle the pandemic. JKF

Backstory: Kayode Fayemi, who heads the Nigerian Governors Forum as Chairman, announced on July 22 that he had tested positive to the virus. Following this announcement, Ekiti State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner, Olawale Fapohunda, and no fewer than 10 aides to Mr Fayemi also tested positive for COVID-19.
Other governors who have also tested positive and received treatment for the virus, include Mallam Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, and David Umahi of Ebonyi State.
Nigeria is still battling to contain the dreaded virus, as the total number of confirmed cases as at the end of July had risen to 43,151. While 19,565 have recovered after treatments so far, 879 deaths have been confirmed from complications relating to the virus.
