President Muhammadu Buhari will be addressing Nigerians on Monday, May 18, 2020, as the first phase of the easing of lockdown and restrictions for the containment of the coronavirus disease comes to an end.
This was just as the president on Sunday, May 17, 2020, received members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 led by its Chairman and Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, at the presidential villa for briefing and recommendations on the first phase of the gradual easing of lockdown for the coronavirus pandemic
This was disclosed by the national coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Aliyu Sani, during a television programme on Channels Television.
In his response to a question, Aliyu said that the task force has been monitoring closely the obedience to the ease of lockdown guidelines.

According to Sani Aliyu, ‘’We have given our recommendations to the President and we will wait for his decision on the next phase of ease of lockdown tomorrow. We have been monitoring quite closely the obedience to the ease of lockdown guidelines.
‘’Whatever decision we take is in the best interest of Nigerians. We are trying to save lives and at the same time balance it up with the economy. No country on earth can afford a lockdown for a prolonged period of time. It will be dangerous to the economy.’’
Dr. Aliyu noted that the task force has made its recommendation to the president and so everyone will have to wait for his decision on Monday.

It can be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari, on April 27, 2020, addressed the nation and announced the first phase of easing the lockdown with effect from May 4, 2020, for an initial period of two weeks. The president said that there was going to be a review of the situation after two weeks to determine compliance and also progress or otherwise on the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
However, in a new twist to the development as reported by Nairametrics, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, on Monday afternoon, said that there will not be any national broadcast from President Muhammadu Buhari.
The presidency spokesman said that the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, which is chaired by Boss Mustapha, will announce any information on new measures aimed at tackling the coronavirus pandemic during their daily media briefing.
The torment on Nigerians is getting unbearable. Enough of this game.
