The Lagos state government has discharged 11 of the Coronavirus patients from the Infectious disease centre in Yaba. This was disclosed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu via his Twitter handle.

Governor Sanwoolu noted that the patients, which are 2 females and 9 males, had tested negative twice as was required, and are fully recovered and back on their feet.

I am happy to break to you, my good people of Lagos, the news of the release today of 11 more patients from our facility in Yaba.

They have fully recovered and have tested negative to #COVID19 and have been allowed to return home to their families.

Meanwhile, eight patients had earlier been discharged as well, after making full recovery from the novel virus.

With this development, Lagos state government has discharged 19 of its 91 confirmed cases, leaving 72 active cases undergoing treatment.

Governor Sanwoolu noted in subsequent tweets that this is no time to relax, but to remain vigilant until total victory is achieved.

“I assure you that at the end, we will hoist a flag of victory – with your cooperation and by the grace of the Almighty” he said.

Let me reiterate that this is not the time to relax, but to maintain our vigilance because of the community infection that we are beginning to see.

I assure you that at the end, we will hoist a flag of victory – with your cooperation and by the grace of the Almighty.#COVID19

He appreciated the front line health workers and professionals in the state for their services, as well as the volunteers that have stepped forward to assist the state government as it combats the COVID-19 scourge.

The Lagos state Commissioner for health, Professor Akin Abayomi had announced during the COVID-19 briefing on Tuesday that more patients would be discharged from the isolation centres in Lagos state in the coming weeks.

He noted that the test is a very sensitive one, hence the requirement for patients to test negative to the virus in two consecutive tests before they are discharged.

“We are confident in our strategy, and I can assure you that Lagos state is ahead in the fight against COVID-19″ he said emphatically.

Abayomi assured Lagosians that no patient would be released if there was any chance of relapse, and that steps were taken to ensure that they had fully recovered before sending them back into the community.
