The Lagos State Government has taken its State Executive Council (SEC) meetings to the virtual platforms, in line with the lockdown directives given by President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday evening.

The virtual meetings will allow all commissioners and heads of agencies to participate in the meetings remotely, keeping them off the roads as the Federal Government directed.

Governor Babajide Sanwoolu announced this in a tweet on Tuesday, noting that governance had to continue during the COVID-19 lockdown.

“The Lagos State Executive Council has moved to virtual meetings that allow everyone to participate at the same time. We are fully committed to leading from the front. Please #StayAtHomeAndStaySafe,” the tweet read.

As the lockdown takes effect in the FCT, Lagos, Sanwoolu urged Lagosians to remain in their homes as directed, as this is the best chance to stop the spread of the virus.

He noted that the lockdown comes with inconveniences, but it is for the greater good of Lagos State and the country.

The governor also charged security agents and officers to be friendly with the civil population even as they enforce the stay-at-home order.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat also charged Lagosians to be peaceful and amiable to one another even as they observe the lockdown.

In a tweet on his handle @drobafemihamzat, he said, “Please let us tolerate each other in our homes during this lockdown, avoid sexual and domestic violence.”

He added that in the event of such occurrences, there were several agencies to be reached.

Among the agencies listed are the Office of the Public Defender, the Ireti Resource Centre, the Mirabel Centre, Women At Risk International Foundation (WARIF), Stand To End Rape and the Primary Healthcare Board.
