COVID-19: Suspected case in katsina tests negative

The Katsina State Government has said that the test result of the suspected coronavirus (covid-19) case, which was announced on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, came out negative.

This disclosure was made by the State Commissioner for Health, Yakubu Danja during a press briefing on Thursday.

In his statement, Danja called for calm and asked the residents of the state to try and remain informed about the coronavirus disease and not be involved in spreading false and unverified information especially on social media.

The Commissioner, however, appealed to members of the general public to maintain a very high level of personal and environmental hygiene like the use of alcohol-based sanitizers, frequent hand washing, avoiding mass social gathering except where necessary and maintaining a high level of cough etiquette.

In addition, he also appealed to people of Katsina State who have any health issues to visit health facilities and give all the important information including travel history. He gave assurances of the intention of the state government would continue to take all the necessary measures to avoid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and urged the people to pray and take health measures to avoid contact with any disease.

It could be recalled that yesterday, the state government announced the first suspected case of the coronavirus disease. This announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary in the state’s ministry of health, Dr Kabir Mustapha at a press briefing. The state Governor Bello Masari, while answering questions from newsmen said that the state will send the blood sample of the suspected case to Lagos for further investigations.

The suspect was said to have just returned from Malaysia and developed some symptoms that required further investigations.

The Federal Government on Wednesday through the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Centre for Disease Control reported five fresh cases of the coronavirus disease, which bring the total number of reported cases to eight
