In a related development, Mike Pence, the American Vice President, has announced the extention of the travel ban which had earlier been imposed on European countries as a result of the coronavirus pandemic to the United Kingdom and Ireland with effect from Tuesday. Pence said that a 30 day US ban took effect on all travel from European Union’s Schengen border-free zone as part of efforts to curtail the virus. He pointed out that Ireland and UK, who were initially excluded from the travel ban have now been included.

The ban has thrown airports around the country into some kind of confusion as incoming travelers are forced to wait for long hours for medical screening before passing through customs.

Meanwhile, President Trump has advised against non-essential travel and has made disclosure of the government’s consideration of the plan to impose domestic restrictions.

The coronavirus pandemic which is ravaging the entire globe has negatively affected the world economy, with crude oil prices crashing and business and economic activities seriously restricted. It has claimed more than 5,800 lives in at least 137 countries.
President Trump in declaring a national emergency on Friday as a result of the pandemic announced the setting aside the sum of $40 billion in disaster relief funds.
