In a bid to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus epidemic, the Nigerian government has scaled up its preventive measures by contacting around 100 people, who might have been exposed to the Italian man that brought the virus to Nigeria.

Reuters reports that Lagos Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, on Sunday, March 1, 2020, said in order to curtail the virus from spreading quickly across the country, the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration and his counterpart in Ogun, Governor Dapo Abiodun has been making collaborative efforts.

While Osagie Ehanire, Nigeria’s Health Minister, said the Coronavirus patient was responding well to treatment and seemed to be on his way to recovery, President Muhammadu Buhari has advised Nigerians not to panic.

“President Buhari urges Nigerians not to panic about the news of this first case of Covid-19 in our country, as undue alarm would do us more harm than good,” a statement from the presidency read.

Recall that on Thursday, February 27, the first case of Coronavirus in Nigeria was recorded, after an Italian man, whose identity is yet-to-be-identified, made his way into the country through a flight of Turkish Airlines.
