Apple already has its 2020 iPhone lineup prepared as it plans to release the biggest iPhone ever in history which is expected to be supplied by Samsung Display. This is according to a report by the Korean news site ETNews.

One of the iPhones reportedly has a screen measuring 6.7 inches diagonally, which is only about an inch less than the display of Apple’s iPad Mini, which measures 7.9 inches. The latest iPhone, the 11 Pro Max when compared to the iPhone in the works is 2 inches behind in screen as it measures 6.5-inch display.

Also on the lineup of the iPhones coming out in 2020 is a smaller iPhone with 5.4-inch display which is even smaller than the present iPhone 11 Pro’s 5.8-inch OLED display.

Samsung expected to supply OLED panels for Apple’s iPhone in 2020

More details: According to the report, Samsung will manufacture the OLED displays for both models of the iPhones. Going by Apple’s record of announcing its new phones and other products at September events in the Bay Area, the 2020 iPhones are expected to come around that time.

According to a high-profile Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is introducing a total of four iPhones in 2020 and one of them is said to support 5G. Kuo also said Apple would launch a new cheaper $399 iPhone, possibly called the iPhone SE2, in the first quarter of 2020. That device is expected to use the same form factor as the current iPhone 8 but will have the new chips offered in Apple’s iPhone 11 series devices. The iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch screen.

What you should know: Although this is not the first time that Apple would be using Samsung Display’s panels on iPhones, this marks the first time it would be using the OLED panel which is usually supplied to Samsung Electronics.

The OLED panel is basically a panel that has touch function built-in as the touch sensor is placed on top of thin-film encapsulation inside of a panel.

Apple has reportedly seen the strengths of on-cell touch OLED panel and Samsung Display is the only company that can mass-produce this panel. This is why Apple requested that supplies of 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch OLED panels be made from Samsung Display.
