Ellah Lakes Plc has announced the resignation of General (Rtd) Zamani Lekwot as the Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors. This is according to a statement published on the website of the Nigerian Bourse.
Ellah Lakes disclosed that Lekwot’s resignation was accepted during the meeting of the Board of Directors which held on October 22, 2019. The directors commended Lekwot for his meritorious service to the company and wished him more success in his future endeavours.
Also at the meeting, Olumide Akpata was appointed to fill the vacuum left by Lekwot with immediate effect.
Who is Olumide Akpata? Akpata is a partner at Templars (a leading Nigerian Law Firm). He has over two decades experience in corporate and Commercial Law and has been recognised by IFLR 1000, as a leading Mergers and Acquisition lawyer in Nigeria and by Chambers and Partners as having experience in advising clients on various aspects of Nigeria Corporate Law.

He regularly advises local and international corporations on the impact of Nigerian Law on their investments and/or operations in Nigeria particularly regarding:
- the establishment of local subsidiaries;
- corporate governance and compliance;
- mergers;
- acquisitions and corporate restructuring;
- labour and immigration; and
- regulatory issues and tax.
Olu is often called upon to speak at local and international conferences and seminars and currently sits on the Council of the Nigeria Bar Association Section on Business Law. He is also the Vice-Chair (West-Africa) of the International Bar Association’s Africa Regional Forum.
In 2018, Olumide Akpata was nominated to serve as a member of the pioneer United Nations Nigerian Humanitarian Fund Private Sector Initiative Steering Group alongside other leaders of the Nigerian business community.
The Nigerian Humanitarian Fund (NHF) is managed by the office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs under the leadership of the UN humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria and was created to provide funds in a flexible and timely manner so those who are in need can have access to basic life-saving support.
