Automotive manufacturing company, Nissan is set to recall 1.2 million vehicles in the U.S., Canada, South Korea and Israel. This was announced in a statement released by the company.

Reasons given: The recall, which was submitted on the 12th of September, is said to be as a result of noncompliant rear visibility camera display systems.

The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear-view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse.

The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.

The Nissan models to be recalled include 2018 and 2019 Nissan Altima, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan and Versa vehicles. Also to be recalled are the Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles also are affected by the recall.

According to the statement, Nissan had informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Transport Canada about the technical issue.

“Nissan Group has notified NHTSA and Transport Canada that it is recalling certain MY 2018-2019 Nissan and Infiniti vehicles in the U.S. and Canada, in addition to South Korea and Israel, to remedy a technical non-compliance by updating the rear visibility system, Nissan Group will update the rear-visibility system software to remedy this condition.”

Going forward, Nissan will begin notifying owners and customers in phases and have dealers update the back-up camera settings software free of charge. The recall is expected to begin October 21, and all affected rear visibility camera display systems should be activated by November 11.
