The days of Spiderman on Marvel Cinematic Universe may be over as Disney’s owned Marvel Studios has ended its partnership deal with Sony Pictures.

Nairametrics gathered that the deal was called off as a result of a disagreement the companies had over co-financing the superhero film, Spiderman.

What happened? The two studios were said to have issues on their terms of agreement. While Disney wanted a 50-50 co-financing agreement, Sony proposed that the terms should stay the same as it had been on Homecoming and Far From Home. The previous agreement gave Marvel 5% of first-dollar grosses which Marvel has now rejected.

The partnership deal started in 2015 when Marvel Studios decided to collaborate with Sony in order to feature Spiderman as one of the superheroes in its movies. By then, Sony had pushed out its Spiderman solo movies – Spiderman, Spiderman 2 and Spiderman 3.

Spiderman then made its first Marvel appearance in the movie Captain America and Civil war in 2016. Other Marvel movies where Spiderman featured include Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame; Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

What this means: This means there will be no collaboration from both companies again. In fact, the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige is no longer on board to produce new Spiderman movies. Also, the actor who plays the role of Spiderman, Tom Holland will no longer be appearing in any Marvel Cinematic Universe films or TV series neither will Marvel’s superheroes be appearing in any Sony Spiderman movies.

Popular Marvel superheroes include Wolverine, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk and Dead Pool, amongst others.

Meanwhile, there have been reports that Sony is still willing to go ahead with the collaboration with Disney’s Marvel provided that they agree on the former terms to feature future films. Disney is yet to agree. This leaves the future of the franchise out of public knowledge. While fans hope that they come back together, Sony is steadily using its most valuable brand, Spiderman to its advantage in the most financially successful way possible.
