This week was a bearish one on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) as the All Share Index (ASI) closed down 2.74% at 37,826.53 basis points. Year to date, the market is back in negative territory at 1.00%.  

25 equities appreciated in price during the week under review, 44 equities depreciated, while 100 equities remained unchanged.

Gainers

Japaul Oil and Maritime Plc

Japaul Oil and Maritime Plc continued its upward movement. The stock gained 23.68% in this week’s trading session, opening at N0.38 and closing at N0.47. Year to date, the stock is down 6%.

C and I Leasing opened at N1.73 and closed at N1.98, up N0.25 or 14.45%. Year to date, the stock is up 53.49%. The company had recently been in the news due to the private equity firm, Abraaj, liquidating its holdings in Nigeria to settle claims.

NEM Insurance Plc

NEM Insurance appreciated by 14.29% or N0.38 this week. The stock opened at N2.66 and closed at N3.04. Year to date, the stock is up 83%, making it the best performing insurance stock year to date.

Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc

Mutual Benefits opened at N0.31 and closed at N0.35, up N0.04 or 12.90%. Year to date, the stock is down 30%.

Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc

Sovereign Trust Insurance gained 10.71% this week. The stock opened at N0.28 and closed at N0.31. Year to date, the stock is down 38%.

Ikeja Hotels Plc

Ikeja Hotels opened at N2.85 and closed at N3.13, up N0.28 or 9.82%. Year to date, the stock is up 75.84%, making it the best performing stock in that sector.

Eterna Oil Plc

Eterna Oil Plc appreciated by 7.14% this week. The stock opened at N6.30 and closed at N6.75, up N0.45. Year to date, the stock is up 66.24%. It is the best performing stock in that sector.

International Breweries Plc

International Breweries opened at N41.30 and closed at N44.00, up N2.70 or 6.54%. Year to date, the stock is down 19.27%.

AXA Mansard Investments Plc

AXA Mansard opened at N2.64 and closed at N2.78. Year to date, the stock is up 44%.

Law Union and Rock Insurance Plc

Law Union and Rock rounds off the top 10 gainers list with a 4.88% gain. The stock opened at N0.82 and closed at N0.86. Year to date, the stock is up 11.69%.

Losers

Honeywell Flour Mills Plc

Honeywell Flour Mills was the biggest loser this week, down 16.06%. The stock, largely owned by billionaire investor, Oba Otudeko, opened at N2.49 and closed at N2.09, down N0.40. Year to date, the stock is down 0.48%.

LASACO Assurance Plc

LASACO Assurance Plc opened at N0.38 and closed at N0.34, down 10.53%. Year to date, the stock is down 32%.

Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) Plc

The stock was marked down by N1.25 this week, following a dividend payment. Ex-dividend price was N26.25.  

CCNN (also known as Sokoto Cement) opened at N27.50 and closed at N24.75, down 10%. The close below its ex-dividend price could be an indication of a slight selloff, following the dividend payment.

Year to date the stock is up 160.53%, making it the best performing stock on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, year to date.

Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc

Seplat opened at N754.90 and closed at N685, down N69.90 or 9.26%. Year to date, the stock is up 9.39%.

The company this week announced that it would be holding a board meeting on the 19th of July in London to consider its 2018 half-year financial results.

Skye Bank Plc

Skye Bank lost 9.26% this week. The stock opened at N0.76 and closed at N0.69. Year to date, the stock is up 38%.

Livestock Feeds Plc

Livestock Feeds Plc was incorporated on March 20th, 1963, and commenced business on May 20th, 1963. The company was quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in 1978. Livestock feeds is engaged principally in the manufacturing and marketing of animal feeds and concentrates. UAC of Nigeria Plc is the majority shareholder.

Livestock Feeds opened at N0.87 and closed at N0.79, down N0.08 or 9.20%. Year to date, the stock is down 4.82%

Forte Oil Plc

Forte Oil opened at N36.95 and closed at N34.05, down N2.90 or 7.85%. Year to date, the stock is down 21.69%.

Unilever Nigeria Plc

Unilever shed 7.73% this week. The stock opened at N55 and closed at N50.75. Unilever is up 23.78%, year to date.

Conoil Plc

Conoil Plc was marked down by N2 this week following a dividend payment. Ex-dividend price was N30.

The stock also closed at the ex-dividend price of N30. Markdown date was on the 19th. Year to date, the stock is up 7.14%.

Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc

Veritas Kapital rounds off the top 10 losers list with a 6.06% loss. The stock opened at N0.33 and closed at N0.31, down N0.02. Year to date, the stock is down 38%.
