The United Kingdom High Commission in Nigeria and other countries have announced the introduction of a £5.48 fee for inquiries made from by visa customers applying from outside the UK. These fees will be collected from June 1st 2017.
The High Commission made this known when explaining a series of changes that have taken place in the handling of inquiries within the Commission, NAN reports. “Effective today (June 1), email inquiries by visa customers from overseas will attract a fee. How you contact UK Visas and Immigration is changing. From 1 June, all customer inquiries will be handled by a new commercial partner Sitel UK. The new contract will see a number of changes for customers.” a report released by the High Commission stated.
These charges, the High Commission claimed, were put in place to help the government reduce costs and ensure those who benefit directly from the UK immigration system make an appropriate contribution. The fees will be paid by using a credit or debit card and would be applicable to the first email inquiry and any follow-up emails to and from the contact center relating to the same inquiry.
Other changes related to the out-sourcing of email inquiries include changes in all phone numbers, UK High Commission opening hours and a reduction in the number of languages offered to 8 including English. Already, there exists a 0.10p per minute toll on telephone call for general inquiries.
