Airk Air has sent two of its Airbus planes to France for C-Checks. A fall out of this is the suspension of the airline’s New York route which the planes serviced. The service which was meant to take place initially in January, may have been shifted to due to cancellations the firm made in December, when one of its planes was damaged by a ground handler. C-checks are usually carried out after 20-24 months or a specified number of hours. The airline expects to resume the route on the 19th of February.
Arik Air is Nigeria’s largest airline in terms of number of aircraft and number of routes covered. The airline was taken over today by the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON). Prior to this, Arik had a reputation for tardy service and debts running into billions of naira. The airline was also reportedly owing staff salaries.
