A funny twist in the current hearing of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, occurred today as the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau evidently did not think that the case was important enough to warrant immediate attention.
After, Counsel to the Senate President, Paul Usoro concluded his cross-examination of the first prosecution witness in the ongoing trial, Michael Wetkas, an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Justice Umar adjourned the case till January 11, 2017 as he had ‘other important things to attend to.’
However, before adjournment, Wetkas, who was cross-examined on count 16 of the charge of false declaration of assets against Saraki, testified that Saraki had lied regarding the purchase of property from rice and sugar sales, although they were not part of the charges brought against him at the CCB.
Since the Justice did not intimate the court with what these ‘important things’ are, Nigerians are left in suspense at what would be more important to a Judge than hearing such a sensitive case.
