Why You Should Not Blame Banks For Not Using Men as Marketers
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linkedin

It is almost a foregone deal as to who gets the job when a man and a woman are left as final candidates for marketing positions in banks. To make the decision easier, the woman is beautiful. Game Over! What is left is settling the minor issues such as her salaries, commissions etc. The man should go and apply for another job immediately.

In Nigeria, so much has been said as to the blatant way banks are prejudiced in favor of women, especially beautiful ones, when it comes to marketing positions. Most of what is said is negative, as stories abound as to the demeaning acts women are expected to perform in order to achieve the mind-boggling targets they are given.

However, apart from the Nigerian habit of excessively doing things, scientific research actually supports banks in their preference of women as marketers. Here are 4 reasons why beautiful women are preferred in marketing positions.

  1. Women are known to have good people skill and are capable of building strong relationships with customers. The importance of this cannot be over-emphasized in the marketing role, where
80% of the job involves building and maintaining relationships with potential and existing customers
  2. Beautiful women short-circuit male rationality. This has been proven scientifically as well. Zhejiang University academics found that the prettier the woman, the more likely men are to throw caution to the wind, leap to a decision without considering the potential consequences of their actions.
  3. Beautiful women reduce male thinking faculties. In a study, men scored less on cognitive tests after meeting women. In a version of the test, the men weren’t even looking at females. They were just told that females are going to be looking at them. This implies that even the notion of being looked upon was enough to make men dull upstairs.
  4. Males try to impress women with risks. This is the logical result of the above points. Reduced cognitive and logical ability only result in more risks. Scientifically, Australian researchers tested this idea when they observed groups of young men skateboarding. Guys tended to play it safe and sane when alone but taking more stupid risks and trying more impressive moves pretty girls showed up.

Don’t entirely blame banks for picking beautiful ladies as marketers. Why else would a multi-millionaire move his funds from where it is currently safely stashed to a bank he probably knows nothing about?
