The Supreme Court of Nigeria has upheld the election of Nyesom Wike as the Governor of Rivers State.
The court said it will give reason(s) for the judgement on February 12.
In its ruling on Wednesday, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, set aside the judgement of the Appeal Court which nullified the election of Governor Wike, and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh poll within 90 days.
The court unanimously validated Wike’s election on the grounds that he won with the lawfully valid votes.
Barrister Nyesom Wike of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had defeated his major challenger, Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressives Congress (APC), during the governorship election that held on April 11, 2015.
