Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele has been named 2015 Man of the Year by Daily Times Nigeria. The Central Bank Governor has had a tumultuous 2015 following the controversial policies he championed as the apex bank struggled to defend the naira.
Not a lot of people will agree with this award considering the harsh economic realities ordinary Nigerians find themselves in. The naira is at an all time low against the dollar, interest rates are still high and inflation rate is creeping back to double digits. Small Business are going out of business and importers of goods, services and raw materials face the threat of extinction due to the persistent dollar scarcity.
The CBN Governor can also claim that despite a lack of fiscal policy last year and delay in announcing a cabinet, he has been able to stir the economy away from what could have been an even more potentially disastrous situation.
