The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikunyi Awaji-Ibani, has resigned. He said he was stepping aside for reasons best known to him.
According to Ibani, “In life there is time for everything. I was called to serve and I think I have served you well. At this juncture, I want to announce that I am stepping aside”.
Hon. Adams Dabotorudima, representing Okrika Constituency, has been elected as the new Speaker.
This resignation comes shortly after the Rivers State House of Assembly passed the state’s 2016 budget of N307 billion.
