- The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA) has expressed deep concern that the federal government has kept mum over the huge subsidy debt owed to marketers.
- The association said a deal was brokered by the 7th Assembly at the height of the fuel scarcity that almost grounded the economy.
- The outcome of the peace meeting was that government would pay the outstanding N291.7billion subsidy claim by the marketers,and this prompted National Union of Transport Owners (NARTO) to resume loading of products at depots.
- However, over one month after the Muhammadu Buhari came to power, the marketers claimed that the authority has not made any concerted effort to discuss the subsidy debt.
- Speaking with our correspondent on the issue, executive secretary of DAPPMA, Olufemi Adewole, said though the latest round of fuel scarcity has nothing to do with the debt but the marketers were becoming very worried about government’s insensitivity to their plight.
“Currently our debt is over N300billion, the last time we had a meeting with the legislature before the end of the tenure of last administration, it was about N291 billion,” he lamented.-
