The Nigerian Communications Commission has set SMS cost at N4 off-net for all domestic ?messages. This is to officially take effect on the 5th of February 2013. Currently SMS cost range from N7- N15 for text sent off networks. In 2009 the NCC had approved N1.02 as interconnection rates between telcos to facilitate a crash in the price of SMS. This dropped the price to about an average of N7 which the NCC does not believe is enough. This new price regime affects only domestic SMS and does not affect SMS sent to foreign networks.
