The economic crisis the country is currently undergoing, has brought untold hardship to several Nigerians, who now find it hard to make ends meet, or as in the case of Isaac Ogbonna, keep relatives alive.
Ogbonna lamented that his elder sister was ill and he could not source the 20,000 Naira necessary for her treatment as his business had folded up due to the recession that hit the country’s economy.
As a result of his desperation, Ogbonna joined his friend who assured him of getting the needed money to settle the hospital bills for his sister’s treatment. However, his friend, along with his other cronies, were armed robbers terrorizing the Ikorodu area of Lagos state.
As reported by Vanguard Newspapers, the gang would enter the victims’ houses, switch off their generators and hold whosoever came out at gunpoint to gain entry and rob occupants of the house. Their plan was to do this to 10 houses and get enough funds.
Unfortunately, though, Vanguard reports that on after his first operation, he was arrested along with others, as they stole a car with a tracking device. To worsen matters for Ogbonna, his sister had died the day before he was arrested.
For Ogbonna, it cannot be much worse than it is now. How many other lives have been lost to the recession? How many more will be lost before the recession is over? These are questions we may never know accurate answers to.

The question raised would have been easier to answer if Nigeria’s current predicament would be limited to just recession.
Unfortunately, we are headed very fast for depression and by January 2016, depression will be officially pronounced!
