The First Bank of Nigeria has refuted claims that the bank is concealing NPA funds, which would run contrary to the Treasury Single Account currently being implemented by the Federal Government.
In a statement signed by the bank’s management, the bank clarified that ‘subsequent to the FG’s directive to implement the Treasury Single Account and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s directive to Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) to transfer all MDAs accounts to the TSA with the CBN, First Bank has since complied and transferred all MDA funds including that of the NPA to the designated NPA account.’
It is to be noted that some days ago, popular newspapers in the country quoted top officials of the NPA as claiming that three banks- First Bank of Nigeria, Heritage Bannk and First City Monument Bank, had been fingered in a series of transactions suspected to be fraudulent and amounting to N11.23billion.
It was said the funds were collected by the bank as revenue for NPA, but that the financial house, in collusion with some officials of the maritime agency, failed to move it into NPA’s Treasury Single Account with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
