A Nigerian Startup That Delivers Items within 3 Hours of Purchase Gets Venture Capital Money

About 13 Nigerian startups are about to get $10 million which Greenwich Capital, a venture capital firm plans to invest in.

One of such startups that will benefit from this is Max Ventures, a logistics service for clients, co-founded by Chinedu Azodoh and Adetayo Bamiduro, both alumni of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which will help them deliver items within three hours of purchase, using their network and locally designed technology solutions.

MAX (Metro Africa Xpress), is an end-to-end crowd-sourced logistics service currently operational in Lagos, which makes use of technology to aggregate independent taxi operators and bike riders into a network of delivery agents.

What differentiates MAX from other logistics services companies is its use of existing Okada riders and Taxi drivers to help drive delivery of products.

How It Works

The process seems seamless and easy as 1-2-3, Once you log onto the website – Max.ng

  1. Schedule Pickup: You select the time you want your package picked up.
  1. Hand Off To Champion: Champion arrives at your doorstep
  1. Leave It To Max

Your package is delivered. No hassles!

Max also offers Next day delivery service for items you want delivered, segregating the items into small, medium or large sizes.

The mission of the company is to build and operate a crowd sourced last mile delivery platform for Africa, starting from Nigeria.

It will be difficult to assess how much of the market share MAX will have a bite of, as the major e-commerce sites like Konga and Jumia already have their dispatch and logistics subsidiaries to cater to the growing market. In addition, pricing will be another issue as it will be interesting to see how many clients or the class of clients MAX will engage considering their current above-premium rates.

For MAX, depending on Okada for delivery might be a faulty strategy considering the fact that Okada is barned from major parts of Lagos Metropolis.
