Prince Emeka Obasi, veteran journalist and publisher of Hallmark Newspaper, is dead.
Obasi, a PR expert and former Commissioner for Information, Abia State, was said to have been battling an undisclosed health challenge before his untimely passing.
The family released a statement signed by Prince Emeka Obasi (Jnr) announcing the unfortunate demise.
The statement read, “The family of Prince Emeka Obasi announces the passing unto glory of Prince Emeka Obasi, Ezenwata, Ibeku Kingdom.
“Prince Emeka, the Publisher of Hallmark Newspapers passed on, Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at a Lagos hospital.
“He is survived by wife, Dr (Mrs) Betty Obasi and Children – Emeka (Jnr), Onyedikachi, Kamsi, Miracle, siblings aunties and uncles.
“Further burial arrangements will be announced in due course.”
What you should know about Obasi
- Mr Obasi who was born in Umuahia, Abia State attended the University of Calabar, where he studied English.
- During Governor Orji Kalu’s first term as governor, he was appointed the commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism.
- In 1998, he set up Hallmark Newspaper and after the newspaper was rested, he established National Mirror in 2006; and then Business Hallmark in 2009.
- The National Mirror Newspapers was later acquired by billionaire businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim in 2008.
- Obasi founded the Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre (PPRAC), organisers of the annual Zik Prize in Leadership Awards.
- The publisher launched a book titled, “Saved for His Praise” in 2018, wherein he chronicled how he survived an unknown illness that almost claimed his life.
