President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security coordination and intelligence operations.
The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, on Monday.
According to the statement, the appointment reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to enhancing intelligence-driven operations, deepening interagency collaboration, and improving responses to emerging security threats across the country.

Major General Fadewa is a retired senior military officer with more than three decades of experience spanning military operations, intelligence coordination, counter terrorism, and international security diplomacy.
The presidency said his career combines operational expertise, strategic leadership, and institutional experience in national security management.
- “As Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) from 2015 to 2021, he played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s modern intelligence coordination framework.
- “He spearheaded the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC) at ONSA, creating an integrated multi-agency intelligence platform that brought together the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces to improve national threat assessment and strategic response coordination,” the statement read.

Following his retirement from military service, Fadewa joined the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja as a Senior Research Fellow, where he contributed to discussions on policing reforms, civil security cooperation, and national security strategy.
He is also the author of the monograph titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which focuses on frameworks for improving collaboration between civil authorities and security institutions.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general would support the administration’s efforts to improve homeland security coordination, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management across the country.
The President also urged Fadewa to deploy his experience and strategic expertise in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening national security objectives.

The appointment of retired Major General Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security comes days after the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, undertook a three-day working visit to the United States to deepen cooperation on security, counterterrorism, regional stability, and strategic partnership.
According to the Presidency, the NSA, during his meetings in the U.S., noted that Nigeria remains fully committed to working with international partners in promoting peace, stability, democratic governance, and economic development across Africa.
He further underscored Nigeria’s role as a regional leader and frontline state in counterterrorism efforts across the Lake Chad Basin and West Africa.
