The Road to Clean Runs on Finance

How Oxygen X and ZOOMe are rewriting the future of urban mobility in Nigeria — one battery swap at a time.

Across Lagos and beyond, thousands of motorcycle riders wake up every morning with the same quiet anxiety: the cost of fuel.

It eats into margins, disrupts livelihoods, and ties an entire informal economy to the volatility of petrol prices.

But a cleaner, cheaper, more resilient alternative already exists, it just needed a bridge to reach the people who need it most. That bridge is financing. And Oxygen X, the forward-thinking financial company has stepped in to build it, in partnership with ZOOMe, Nigeria’s foremost electric mobility infrastructure company.

The Partnership

ZOOMe has spent years constructing something remarkable: an electric motorcycle infrastructure anchored by a battery-swap network that lets riders recharge in minutes, not hours. The numbers speak for themselves, over 50,000 battery swaps completed, 3.2 million kilometres driven on clean energy, and 190 metric tons of COâ‚‚ emissions avoided. The technology works. The environmental case is ironclad. But infrastructure without financing is a story without a middle chapter. The barrier for most riders was never a lack of belief in electric mobility, it was the gap between today’s pocket and tomorrow’s savings.

That is precisely the gap Oxygen X was built to close. Through structured, accessible financing, Oxygen X enables riders and small business customers to acquire electric motorcycles connected to ZOOMe’s swap network, delivering clean, dependable, and affordable mobility to people whose livelihoods depend on it. Electric motorcycles reduce operating costs by up to 40% compared to their petrol counterparts, with riders saving meaningfully on both fuel and maintenance. For someone whose entire income rides on staying on the road, that difference is not marginal, it is life-changing.

A Financier with a Philosophy

Oxygen X didn’t arrive at this partnership by accident. Born out of Access Holdings, one of Africa’s most consequential financial services groups- Oxygen X was built around a specific conviction: that credit, deployed with intention, is one of the most powerful tools for climate action and inclusive economic growth on the continent. That means going beyond traditional credit metrics to ask a deeper question: does this deal make Nigeria better? Does it put more people to work, reduce emissions, and build economic resilience for communities that need it most?

“Electric mobility is a powerful tool for reducing emissions and improving livelihoods,” said Efe Obaigbena, Head of Partnerships and Business Development at Oxygen X. “Our partnership with ZOOMe aligns with our mission to finance solutions that advance Nigeria’s climate goals and support inclusive economic growth.”

The ZOOMe partnership is the clearest expression yet of what that philosophy looks like in practice, capital flowing not to where returns are easiest, but to where impact multiplies.

The Human Dimension

Behind the statistics are individual riders: dispatch workers, food delivery operators, logistics runners, whose economic lives are genuinely different because of lower fuel costs, less maintenance downtime, and more predictable monthly overheads. For Oxygen X, this is what inclusive growth finance looks like in the real world: informal economy workers who keep Lagos moving, whose productivity gains ripple outward through families and communities.

“This partnership accelerates our mission to make clean mobility accessible at scale,” said Adedayo Odunlami, CEO and Co-founder of ZOOMe. “Financing is a critical enabler for riders, and we’re excited to work with Oxygen X to expand access across Lagos and beyond.”

Part of Something Larger

For Oxygen X, sustainability is not a CSR footnote, it is a strategic priority embedded in how the company allocates capital, structures products, and defines long-term value, a business purpose-built to direct financing toward green infrastructure, climate-resilient enterprise, and the economic empowerment of underserved communities.

The future of Nigerian mobility is electric. And the financing is already here.
