Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp has introduced new features to enhance AI integration within WhatsApp, allowing users to engage with Meta AI using their voice, edit photos, and receive quicker customer service from businesses.

The company disclosed in a blog post that during the recent Meta Connect event, the company unveiled exciting updates that will allow users to interact with Meta AI using their voices and even send photos for editing.

Meta is making significant strides in integrating AI into WhatsApp and after a year of introducing this technology. Let’s take a closer look at these updates.

Talk directly to Meta AI

One of the standout features is the ability to have real-time voice conversations with Meta AI. Users can simply press down on the waveform button to ask questions and receive explanations on various topics.

“You can now speak to Meta AI and it will talk back. Just press down on the waveform button to ask a question and let Meta AI explain something you’re curious about,” Meta said in the announcement.

As this feature rolls out, users will also have the option to choose different voice types, including those resembling famous personalities from around the globe.

Photo assistance

Another notable update allows users to send photos to Meta AI for insights. For instance, if you snap a picture of a menu in a foreign language, you can ask Meta AI for a translation.

Similarly, if you capture a photo of a plant, you can inquire about its care requirements.

“You can now send a photo to Meta AI and get answers about the world around you,” the company

Users can also edit their photos by adding, removing, or altering elements within the image. For example, you could eliminate an unwanted stranger from a background or change the colours of an object to see it from a different perspective.

Business interactions

On the business front, Meta is expanding its AI capabilities to ensure quicker service for users communicating with businesses through the WhatsApp Business app.

This update changes the way businesses interact with customers and drive sales. From answering common queries to guiding customers through the purchase process, AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants are enhancing customer experiences and increasing engagement.

Meta’s generative AI ad tools have also seen significant adoption, with over a million advertisers using them to create 15 million ads in the past month.

What you should know

  • In July 2024, Meta rolled out two monetization features for content creators in Nigeria and Ghana on Facebook: In-Stream Ads and Facebook Ads on Reels.
  • These features enabled creators to earn money from original videos and Reels content. Eligible Creators in Nigeria and Ghana will be able to earn money for their video and reel content, with support in over 30 languages globally
  • To qualify, creators had to comply with Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies and meet specific criteria, such as having a minimum of 5,000 followers for In-Stream Ads.
  • These ads could appear before, during, or after on-demand videos, offering creators new ways to generate revenue.
