Vaccine enforcement: No going back on January 17 directive for government workers, FG warns
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linkedin

The Federal Government has warned that its January 17 directive that all unvaccinated workers be barred from accessing government offices still stands and that there is no going back on the directive.

This comes as government workers in the FCT rush to get vaccinated from Covid-19 before the ruling is enforced, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria.

Mr Ikharo Attah, the Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to the FCT Minister, says the Ministry is pleased with compliance so far and has been urging staff to get vaccinated.

What the Ministry is saying

During a vaccination exercise for government workers on Tuesday, Mr Attah warned that pictures of vaccination cards on phones would not be accepted.

“We are very pleased that many people are trooping in to get vaccinated. Although they are telling us that the centre is close to their office but we are also very impressed.

“We are also elated because we are seeing large numbers of persons taking the jab; some are taking their second jab, while some taking booster jab. We are so happy about it.

“There is no going back, on Monday, Jan. 17, we are doing enforcement.

“We have two OB Vans, going round and broadcasting in FCTA-owned offices, telling staff to go and get vaccinated or go for regular testing,” he said.

He added that the FG is seriously following up on this and also warned people not to take snapshots of their card with their phone as they want to see the original card.

“Don’t show us [snapshots of] vaccination cards,” he said, citing that the enforcement team would be deployed at the premises of FCTA and secretariats.

What you should know

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) warned it will bar workers from accessing their offices from January 17 if they are unable to show proof of their vaccination against COVID-19. The circular also directed that all employees be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. They will also present a Polymerase Chain Reaction PCR test done within 72 hours.

Nairametrics reported last month that Federal Government agencies started the “Operation Show Your COVID-19 Vaccination Card,” a plan to only allow vaccinated Nigerians to enter government buildings, joining states like Kaduna and Delta that already have a similar existing protocol.
