EFCC insists Eagle Eye app is safe, effective, contrary to alleged data theft
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linkedin

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reacted to the allegation that its app, Eagle Eye, has been compromised, saying the whistleblower tool has been the springboard of several investigations.

This was disclosed by the commission via its Instagram page on Wednesday.

According to the anti-graft agency, the claims that the whistle-blower app, Eagle Eye stalls at 15,000 downloads, serves as a potential avenue for data theft, and is marred by low downloads, among others, are false.

What EFCC is saying about the claims

The Commission stated, “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a report captioned, EFCC whistle-blower app stalls at 15,000 downloads, critics allege data theft, alleging dissatisfaction by “users” and low downloads of the Commission’s whistle-blower App, Eagle Eye, among others.

“The Commission wishes to state that it is pleased with the performance of the application which has been the springboard of several investigations.

“Indeed, the Commission continues to receive positive reviews from users especially those whose reports were the fulcrum of intelligence that led to the arrest of suspects or the recovery of stolen assets.

“The novel application is also the subject of peer review by law enforcement agencies around the world. It remains a groundbreaking innovation in law enforcement especially in Nigeria as it eliminates the human element and other encumbrances in the crime reporting process.

“Naturally, you would not expect those at the receiving end of such a crime-busting innovation to lavish it with rave reviews in the IOS or Google Play Store. The internet trolls which the medium amplified their criticisms as the views of genuine users of the application are clearly elements for whom the application remains an existential threat and they will stop at nothing to discredit it.

“The reality which the Commission can proudly proclaim is that the App is working and, through it, the EFCC is receiving a steady stream of Intel which is the overarching objective.

“Those who have yet to download the app are encouraged to do so by visiting either the Apple or Google Play Store. It is free and user-friendly. Above all, it works!”

How the Eagle Eye app works

In a statement issued, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, explained that the app is user friendly and can be navigated by any literate person.

  • Eagle Eye is a user-friendly application, with features that can be navigated by any literate person.
  • The first step is to download the app, which is 54MB, to your device from either the Apple or Google Playstore.
  • Click on report case/incident.
  • Upload the image of suspect/asset/property you wish to report; location details, report description.
  • Also, provide information about yourself. Some of the information are the name of the informant, phone number, e-mail address and contact address.
