The National Examinations Council (NECO) has finally announced the release of the results of the 2021 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted across the country.

This new development is coming after an initial delay in the release of the examination results.

This was disclosed by the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, who apologised for the delay in releasing the examination results while addressing newsmen in Minna.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Wushishi said that out of 1,233,631 candidates who registered, 1,226,631 actually sat for the examination.

Wushishi said also that the number of candidates who made five credits and above including English and Mathematics was 878,925 representing 71.64%, when compared with 2020 SSCE internal figures of 894,101, which was 73.89%; a 2.2% decrease.

He further explained that the number of candidates who made five credits and above irrespective of English language and Mathematics was 1,226,796, representing 94.04%, when compared with 2020 SSCE internal figures of 1,112,041 of 91.9%.

On malpractices, the NECO boss said that 20,003 candidates were involved, representing 1.63%, as against 33,470 representing 2.63% cases recorded in 2020.

The registrar who reiterated the council’s zero tolerance for examination malpractices said appropriate standards and excellence were maintained right from the planning stage to the release of the results.

He said the reduction in the level of malpractices was a result of deepened monitoring of the examination by members of the governing board, management and senior staff of the council adding that candidates could now access their results on the NECO website, www.neco.gov.ng.

Recall that the 2021 NECO examination commenced on July 5, 2021, after it had been rescheduled to give states with low registration candidates the opportunity to register more candidates for the examination.
