The Lagos State Government has announced the release of traffic diversion plans at Alafia Bridge along Lagos-Badagry Expressway for emergency repair works at the failed section of the Bridge from Monday, October 18, 2021.

The project is part of the state government’s effort to tackle the road infrastructure problems of the state and ease the traffic challenges of commuters plying that axis.

This disclosure is contained in a statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde.

What this means

Oladeinde explained that vehicles heading towards Mile 2 will be diverted to Tokosi Street/Kekere Ekun axis to link Baale Road inwards Alhaji Opere Street and connect Odiche Street to access the service lane inbound Mile 2 during the reconstruction.

Going further, the Commissioner advised motorists heading towards Apapa-Oshodi Expressway to make a turn at Orile Bus Stop/Baale Road and connect Ogungbesan Street, after Coker Bridge to access Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway for further journey to their various routes.

He stressed that heavy-duty trucks would be diverted to the existing Carriageway, adding that the earlier mentioned diversion routes were designed to cater for light/smaller vehicles, hence will not be able to accommodate large vehicles like trucks.

Oladeinde, therefore, appealed to motorists and road users to cooperate with the State Traffic Management Authority during the construction period to minimise any inconvenience, adding that patience and understanding will reduce travel time along the axis.

What you should know

The Lagos State Government has been on an infrastructure improvement drive across the state as part of its smart city project.

A few days ago, the state government released the traffic diversion plan for the Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota expressway following the Federal Ministry of Work’s reconstruction of the road for a period of four months with effect from Monday, October 18, 2021.
