The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) revealed that it has registered 245,000 businesses under its free business name registration scheme so far this year.

This was disclosed by the Registrar-General, Alhaji Garba Abubakar, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Wednesday.

The CAC boss added that the free registrations were done with the approval of the federal government, as part of its interventions to reduce the economic impacts of COVID-19 on Nigerians.

He added that the “Federal Government paid 50 percent of the cost of registration to CAC and more than 245,000 business names were consequently registered,” citing that the free business registration process so far has been electronic and applicants also got their certificates electronically.

“The numbers were divided between the 36 states of the federation and the FCT,” he said, noting that “Lagos, Abia and Kano States had the largest numbers.”

He disclosed that aggregators were appointed and paid to collect SMEs information and submit the same to CAC.

“The commission provided special access for the aggregators for effective service delivery since they were responsible for scanning and uploading of documents,” he said, citing that the CAC had to take over from one of the aggregators appointed for two states, who failed to deliver.

“We are hoping that by end of September, the exercise will come to an end,’’ he said.

Surprised to hear that the free CAC registration is still on . I called the aggregator in Imo state sometime around January, and was informed the process has ended.

I tried to register for my company Business Name through the Lagos State aggregator and all his three phone numbers are not going through and so I couldn’t benefit from the free business name registration offer.
Now I am trying to register now on my own without the help or assistance of any aggregator, but I was asked to pay #10, 000.00 Ten Thousand naira only.
What should I do as I have done name search and CAC have approved it for me after paying search fee of #500.00 Fi e Hundred Naira only.

I have been trying to register a business name since January, 2021.
    The portal is frustrating.
All the numbers provided for help are all not functional.
    Customers service relation is zero.
We have paid for the reservation and for the registration.
9 months after we are yet to get out electronic document.
The way it is I am afraid we are going to loose all money’s paid.

Yes, login to the portal to make the payment.
Please note, I would redirect you to Remita page for payment where you are to use your card for payment. After successful payments, just wait and be redirected back to CAC portal.

    Thumbs up for this initiative.
But I must ask, Why is the CAC registration portal so user unfriendly? It is stacked against individuals registering by themselves. You must engage an agent.

    Why?

I did my own registration online myself in August 2021 and got the certificate downloaded, though I paid N500 for search and N10,000 for registration.
    Which one is free here.
