South Africa’s former president, Jacob Zuma has been hospitalised, a statement by South Africa’s Ministry of Correctional Services said.
“A routine observation prompted that Mr Zuma be taken in for in hospitalisation,” they said.
Zuma had been in jail following a sentence to serve 15 months prison time for defying a court order to testify at a graft inquiry. His recent incarceration sparked a wave of protests in the nation, such as has not been seen since the end of the apartheid.
The ex-president is also expected to appear in court later this month against charges of soliciting bribes from arms dealers.
In case you missed it
Nairametrics reported in June that Jacob Zuma, who had been repeatedly implicated in aiding and abetting the plunder of state funds while in office, was sentenced to 15 months in jail for defying a court order to testify at a graft inquiry.
