During the annual Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced that the company had made various updates on some of its devices. The reason behind these updates is to enable users to stay connected, find focus and use intelligence to explore the world. The keynote speaker, Craig Federighi, introduced iOS 15 which is the latest version of the iOS operating system. It has been released for developers to test and will be released for public beta later in July this year. The device comes with features such as facetime updates, focus mode, live text, apple wallets and many more features.
Nairametrics brings you some of the highlights of the event.
The FaceTime Update
The FaceTime update comes with Spatial Audio and Voice Isolation that makes voices sound like they are coming directly from where the person is located on the screen most especially when it’s combined with a compatible audio device. It brings with it a Portrait mode that blurs the background during FaceTime calls. With iOS 15, users can use the Share Play feature to share media files during FaceTime calls and also generate faceTime links they can share with others to join their FaceTime calls from both android and desktop.
App Map
iOS 15 comes with 3D elevation maps that users can use to explore the world. This goes as far as displaying almost everything you need to know about a particular terrain such as buildings, bike lanes, crossroads, etc. You can even scan a building with your camera to orient the phone precisely and know the exact location and where to move on to.
App Wallet
The app wallet allows the integration of office, home and hotel keys. This means that you can unlock any door that is compatible with your phone. The company is already working with some U.S states to assign an encrypted copy of the driver’s license as later, this will be an accepted form of security check.
Focus mode
This is a new feature that allows you to customize and filter notifications, apps and the mode of your phone per time. This means that when at work, only mobile apps needed for work will be displayed as the rest will be tucked up and vice versa. You can even customize the vacation mode during vacations.
Live Text
Another new feature! Live messaging recognizes and reads the text in photos and images. Users can highlight and copy this text. While Updates on AirPods includes the conversation mode that allows a user to boost and control the voices of the people around when he or she is having a faceTime conversation.
Security Updates
iOS15 has integrated security updates that hides a user’s IP address and location from invisible tracking pixels. With the App Privacy Report, which summarizes how frequently an app accesses a location, a user can easily sight suspicious behaviour as the app will flag it. Also, users will be able to add contacts on iCloud that can help them log in again if logged out.
macOS Updates
Speaking about mac OS, Apple announced that the next release on Mac operating system will be called macOS Monterey and the Share Play feature on iOS 15 will be integrated into macOS. With Universal control, users will be able to use the same cursor and keyboard across Macs and iPad. Also, Airplay that will allow users to send Airplay content to Mac’s display is being developed. The Safari UI will be overhauled and tabs will be grouped to make the system more organized.
Siri to get to Third Party Device
Apple has announced that Siri will be open to third-party developers and their devices later this year.
Health Update
There have also been a great number of updates with regards to health. Your iPhone can now examine your walking steadiness, step timing and could raise an alarm if you increase over time. With the use of Trends, you will have a summary of both your step count and heart rate per time and the new Health Sharing feature allows you to share your health reports with your family.
