Netflix supporting education by offering some free shows

Netflix has made a range of its documentaries available for free via Google’s YouTube channel as a way of helping teachers cope with the challenge of accessing educational materials during the COVID-19 pandemic, without being required to pay license fees.

With several teachers looking for added tools during remote-learning times, Netflix said it has published 10 labels. The documentaries include Knock Down the House, Chasing Coral, End of Sentence, Abstract, Period, and Zion and Babies, among others.

In addition, to the documentaries themselves, the titles have added educational tools online for both teachers and students. Netflix also plans to assemble question and answer sessions with some of the program creators.

For now, the documentaries are available only in English, but labels in more than ten languages will come out in a few weeks from now.

Conducting the educational sessions remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic has put educational systems, students, teachers, and families to the test.

“We hope this will, in a small way, help teachers around the world,” Netflix said.

Many studies have shown elevated levels of streaming activity since many parts of the world closed schools and imposed lockdowns, to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
