Volkswagen Group hires Johan de Nysschen as new COO

Automotive manufacturing company, Volkswagen Group has hired Johan de Nysschen as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Volkswagen’s North American region. 

De Nysschen will be overseeing the company’s North American operations and as such will be reporting directly to the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Scott Keogh.

In a statement, Keogh made it known that De Nysschen would help speed up the company’s day-to-day decision, streamlining executive reporting structure in order to better coordinate the brand and align operations in the region. 

“He will help make us faster, better and smarter. He’ll speed our decision-making and dive deep into our day-to-day business so we can continue to make this brand matter again.” Keogh said. 

While commenting on his new job, De Nysschen said he was looking forward to re-joining the company where he spent 20 years earlier in his career before leading Nissan’s Infiniti luxury brand and General Motors’ Cadillac. 

Brief background on De Nysschen: The new COO worked for the Volkswagen Group back in1993 down to 2012. In the last nine years of his tenure, he served as President of Audi of America and led a team that included marketing Keogh and COO Mark del Rosso. During his tenure, Audi climbed from 35,000 sales in 2003 to 139,000 sales in 2012.  

In 2012, De Nysschen left Audi of America to run Infiniti which he later left in 2014 to run Cadillac. He then left Cadillac in April 2018. He holds a Bachelors degree in Commerce and Economics from Nelson Mandela University and is also an alumnus from the University of Pretoria.

De Nysschen, who is set to start his new job on October 1, will be controlling Volkswagen brand’s strategy and overall operational excellence through the launch of numerous products.

It sells passenger cars under the Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda and other Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
