The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has dismissed reports that it plans to relocate the headquarters of the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), a subsidiary of the corporation, from its present location in Ekpan, Delta State, to somewhere outside the region.
The Group General Manager of the NNPC, Ndu Ughamadu said in a press release on Sunday that the report was as “an unfortunate statement” credited to the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

Ughamadu condemned the proclamation credited to the Deputy Senate President, who had reportedly announced the alleged relocation of the NGC headquarters from the Niger Delta region.
The NNPC manager stated that the Omo-Agege might have been misinformed or was quoted out of context as the subject of relocating the NGC’s headquarters was never on the NNPC management’s table for deliberations.
The back story: A section of the media recently reported a statement credited to the Special Adviser to the Deputy Senate President on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, that the senator had expressed concerns about the alleged plot by the NNPC to move the NGC headquarters in Ekpan-Warri to Abuja, saying companies who had earlier relocated could return, given the prevalence of peace and accelerated development in the Niger Delta region.
In the meantime, the Group General Manager of NNPC has urged the NGC host communities and other stakeholders to disregard the relocation tale which he described as “totally false.”
“The Corporation assured that the focus of the current management of NNPC Group under the headship of Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari is to ensure a harmonious relationship with stakeholders and host communities in such a way as to entrench a win-win scenario for all concerned,” he said.
