An Air Peace B737 jet was, earlier today, involved in a minor accident while trying to land at the local wing of the Muritala Muhammed Airport in Lagos. The hard-landing incident reportedly resulted in the removal of the aircraft’s front wheel.

Eyewitnesses said no life was lost as a result of the accident, as all passengers and crew alighted from the aircraft unscathed. However, many passengers were understandably shaken by the event.

The Air Peace jet was flying in from Port Harcourt, Rivers State. There was a heavy downpour in Lagos earlier today.

Many minor accidents: Today’s accident is just one of the many minor accidents Air Peace jets have recently been involved in. As Nairametrics reported back in June, another Air Peace jet skidded off the runway and ended up in the bush while trying to land at the Port Harcourt airport. Again, no life was lost, but passengers were shaken up.

This is bad for business: Air Peace’s many minor accidents are becoming too much. Today’s accident could have resulted in a major tragedy. Needless to say that this is not good for the company’s reputation.

As one of Nigeria’s leading airlines, it has become very imperative for Air Peace to put its act together before it loses its customers and the competition. After all, no sane air traveler would like to keep flying with the same air carrier that keeps having minor accidents almost on a monthly basis.

Don't even know which local airline is top notch again, Airpeace used to be my favourite but never again.

Just fast and pray for safety each time you have to travel by air. 🙏🏿

Recall that Air Peace was recently accused by the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) of intentionally concealing information about some of the air mishaps involving its jets. The IAB listed some of the accidents involving the airline thus-

  • An accident involving Air Peace Boeing 737-300 aircraft with Registration Marks 5N-BUK.
  • An incident on the runway 18R at the Lagos Airport in May.
  • There was also another incident in December when a Boeing 737-300 belonging to the airline experienced some difficulties while en route the Akanu Ibiam International Airport from Lagos.

Aircraft and passenger safety must be the bedrock of aviation business in Nigeria. By the way, landing safely does not connote soundly. Incidents such as these are incapable of producing safe and sound experiences.

Too many red flags, I hope the relevant authorities will ensure trouble is kept away from our air space

Nigerians have right to be shaken, but, most of them are novices in aircraft issues and tend to over-dramatise and exergerate minor issues in flight.
Just like the one involving APC spokes man in Lagos sometime, igbokwe, there was nothing he didn’t say, but, the incidence was ordinary fall in cabin compression pressure, which could have led to nose bleeding and some minor discomfort, and the standard response procedure is to release oxygen mask and reduce altitude and which the pilot did, but, passengers were funnily crying over what they didn’t understand.
If there is turbulence in air, they start shouting and crying, casting and binding.
I think, there is need to educate passengers on these common occurrences in air flight, like cabin pressure fall, turbulence, just like gallop in motor vehicle.
This latest mishap was probably due to poor visibility for which simisola, the pilot requested to land on the longer and bigger runway, there was no threat to life.
